Does cblast still exist?
05/24/16 7:42 AM

I'm wondering if he still does flashes/if anyone can get ahold of him? I just had a question about octane rating

He flashed my 14R's ECU,I had him tune for 89 octane, i was wondering if i can still run 89 octane even in like, say, 90 degree heat days? or should i put 93 octane in on extremely hot days like this

any of you that also got the flash that can confirm/deny 89 is safe/unsafe in hot temperatures please chime in as well!

Thanks!

Others have run 89 in warm weather and even ran their best times with it at the track. That being said, above 80-85 degrees, I'd run 91 or better. You wont feel the slight hp loss by not running 91+. besides, the warmer temps are killing some power anyway.

Kawasaki recommends 91+ and they designed the thing after all. They should know what they are talking about. It may be that they know how poor the fuel quality can be in some area's so by recommending 91+ they are just covering their bases in case you get a bad tank of fuel.

in any case... when hot out its more likely to need the octane. So run the good stuff, or at least keep an ear out for ping. and definitely don't lug the motor on 89 (or 91/93). Might be too late if you hear it knocking.

after all, its only a buck or two per fill up more. I'm not saying to never run 89. I DO run it in temps under 75, or when I know I'm not going to be in a lot of stop and go traffic to heat soak the motor.

My exhaust tells me premium is the only way to go.

89 works all day stock or flashed, cold or hot. Octane is a kinetic suppressor. 89 does not preignite in the 14 LOL. None of my 14's ever saw premium.

Edit:
So I'm thinking, when did it knock? A heavy open throttle, too low a mph to gear rpm, too high a hill = Audible Knock.
The plumbing truck next to me and a WOThell out of there = No knock sound.

As far as C goes, he's just the middleman for the performance shop. I'm going to assume the shop borrowed his bike is all. I'm also going to assume C does not own a dyno, a shop, etc. So back to C being the middleman, why chase him when the shop has the flash.

Maybe the new owners are reading up and think C is the only source? I'm just saying that if C is a no-show, can't get a hold of him, that's where you find a C-flash I guess is get a hold of Neil's?

rsrider25, I had my ECU flashed March 2nd of this year, only 2 months ago. I didn't go through his website, just contacted him via the email in his signature, if that helps you at all.

My bike doesn't knock at all on 89 , although i haven't run the bike in a temp over 75 yet with the flash, so i wasn't sure if it was alright, i know some people run 87 and are fine ( which i think is borderline on the unsafe side)

i just wasn't sure what the general agreement was on these bikes

I'm not trying to save a buck by not running premium, i had the bike tuned for 89 by cblast last year, but the weather temp was dropping and never really got over 90 degrees back then, so i wasn't worried about the heat, now that summer is starting i just want to make sure the bike is fine

Don't get old... 87-89-91 is what I now recall since you said 87. Yes, freddie frugal and his depleted dermis here: so I run full leather jacket, something over that, double pants, double top w/long sleeves, high enough ankle boots, a heat wave and a tank of 87 and I'm good to go... standard wear, standard fill up.

True or false, EMS can pull timing if it detects knocking? Not sure if our bikes have this or not but I thought they did. Not that it would make much of a difference probably just something to think about.

I know my '06 did not have knock sensors and I don't believe the '14 does either. They are basically small coil electromagnets tuned to 1st mode the engine will knock at. They look like small donuts maybe 1 in in OD, that mount thru the ID to a stud that provides the structure the engine knock resonates at.

True. Must time the new ign unit with the engine's 4 cylinders and radio check knock sensor #1 along side each cylinder. See page below.

Not sure if our bikes have this or not but I thought they did.

False. Must have a knock sensor. The 14 does not.. [yet].

Nels is his partner: https://2wheeldynoworks.com/services/ecu-flashing/

I have worked with him personally, great guy and very forthcoming with information.

I have run 87, due to no other fuel being available in remote areas that I ride. No problems for me, but I do prefer 91.

YMMV.
